Juno nominated musicians with international recognition and success with the rock band Midway State

Nathan Ferraro and Daenen Bramberger have always had a passion for music. During their time at Our Lady of the Bay, the two, along with two other members, formed the musical group The Midway State. Nathan is the primary vocalist and pianist for the group and Daenan plays the drums. Since graduating in 2004, the band has had tremendous international success.

In 2008, the band released their album Holes, which included the top hit Never Again. The following year, The Midway State was nominated for two Juno Awards: “Best Pop Album” for Holes, and “Songwriter of the Year” for Nathan Ferraro.

In June of 2009, the band took home the Much Music Awards for “Favourite New Artist” and “Best Independent Video” for their song Never Again.

One of the band’s most excitable moments was collaborating with Lady Gaga on the Peter Gabriel cover, “Don’t Give Up.” Although the song was never released, it can still be found on YouTube and remains a career highlight for the band.

The Midway State released another record, Paris or India, in 2011 and have been the opening acts for bands such as Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab for Cutie and Third Eye Blind, just to name a few.

The band is forever grateful for the support they received during their time at Our Lady of the Bay. One of the school’s events, “Battle of the Bands,” was The Midway State’s first ever live show! Nathan and Daenen continue their musical careers with the band, and plan to release new music in the near future.
