Graduated 2019
Emma graduated first in her class from the Canadian Coast Guard College, earning several prestigious honours. Proud of her Indigenous heritage, Emma aims to inspire future generations to pursue careers in the maritime industry.
Emma is a proud Beausoleil First Nation woman and a Marine Navigation Officer with the Canadian Coast Guard. Her deep connection to the water is rooted in her culture and upbringing. She grew up on her grandfather’s marina in Honey Harbour, where she developed a passion for the maritime world. She spent her childhood boating and helping with seasonal boat launches and retrievals.
Her dedication to the marine industry led her to pursue post-secondary education in that field. She attended Cape Breton University and the Canadian Coast Guard College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Nautical Science.
Emma graduated first in her class from the Officer Training Program at the Canadian Coast Guard College. She received several honours, including the Navy League of Canada Trophy for exemplary courtesy and deportment. She also earned her Watchkeeping Mate Unlimited Ticket and Master 150 Gross Tonnage Ticket.
As a student, she took on many extracurricular roles. She served as a Small Craft Instructor, Safety Boat Coxswain, and Marine Navigation Simulator Coordinator.
Now, as a Marine Navigation Officer, Emma is a role model for others, especially Indigenous youth. She shows them that careers in maritime fields, like the Coast Guard, are within reach. Her achievements reflect her dedication, pride, and commitment to her Indigenous heritage and community.
