Autobody technician Ethan Almeida will represent Canada at the 2026 WorldSkills competition after rising through the Skills Canada program.
“Problem-solving is essential in my trade. Mistakes happen. What matters is how you respond and move forward.” For Ethan Almeida, that mindset shapes both his work and his future.
During his time at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford, Ethan discovered the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and began a co-op at Excellence Auto Collision. What started as a high school placement quickly became a defining career path. Within months, he was competing at Skills Ontario and Skills Canada, earning gold at both, and solidifying his passion for the trade.
After graduation, Ethan enrolled in Centennial College’s Autobody Repair program, while continuing his work at Excellence Auto Collision. Since 2022, he has competed annually at the provincial and national levels, earning a spot on the podium each year. In 2025, he captured provincial and national gold, securing a place on Team Canada for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. The honour places him among the top young, skilled trades competitors in the country.
Ethan credits his success to perseverance, hard work, and the resilience fostered through his Catholic education. Looking ahead, he hopes to grow into a leadership role, with the long-term goal of managing or opening his own shop.
Ethan remains focused on the idea that how one handles setbacks determines success, a principle he carries as he prepares for the world stage.
